Somisomi
About This Spot
Stepping into Somisomi is like finding a quiet, sunlit corner where playful nostalgia meets simple, elegant curiosity. This dessert spot on Truxel Road in Sacramento strikes a gentle balance between casual comfort and an intriguing sense of discovery. The pace here feels unhurried, inviting you to slow down and savor small moments—whether alone with a cup of smooth, subtly flavored ice cream or sharing soft smiles over a whimsically crafted taiyaki perched atop your treat.
The atmosphere is airy and bright, with a lightness that mirrors the delicate textures of the desserts themselves. Here, the usual notions of frozen treats take on a thoughtful, quieter voice. Flavors often draw on Asian influences—not loud or syrupy, but nuanced and layered, coaxing you toward something both familiar and new. Imagine cool ube swirls mingling with the slight bitterness of a rich cold brew, or the playful crunch of a fish-shaped waffle carrying the gentle creaminess of custard or red bean paste.
Somisomi offers more than a quick sweet fix; it invites a moment of calm celebration. The aroma of freshly baked pastry mingles with a hint of roasted coffee, setting the stage for a shared experience that feels personal yet unpretentious. Staff members move with an easy friendliness that complements the space’s openness, making it a spot where locals feel equally at ease whether they’re escaping a busy afternoon or catching up with friends.
Did you come for a familiar favorite or to try a matcha twist perched inside a fish-shaped waffle? Either way, the essence of Somisomi lies not just in what’s on the menu but in how those flavors gently tease your curiosity and invite you to savor a quiet kind of joy.

SOMISOMI is a different play on frozen desserts and the flavors have more of an Asian flare and are more subdued than your typical fruity and sweet frozen yogurt flavors. I especially love the fresh pastry fish that you can get hollow or filled with custard, Nutella, etc. They stick the fish on top of your frozen yogurt and you can choose a topping for free. They only have a few toppings to choose from but it works. Then you can choose a fresh strawberry or macaron to put on top if you'd like. I really enjoy it. It's a fresh take on a frozen dessert.

Clean place, and if you're craving ube ice cream, this is the best spot to get it. Don't forget to add Oreo crumbs!

Very cute and open place. Employee was polite and friendly. The taiyak with custard was perfect and the Ube, Thai swirl is delicious and so was the milk and red bean paste taiyaki.

Things that I never knew I always wanted: SomiSomi. This place sells soft-serve ice cream in the flavors that billions in the Eastern Hemisphere have enjoyed. For some reason, this little hamlet north of Sacramento is now a hotbed for Asian treats. Everything is yummy, and I applaud anyone who opens a business that makes my town better. That said, be ready for the stomachache that inevitably strikes after finishing your treat.

This place was packed when my family and I visited, and my sister and her family were with us as well. Despite how busy it was, Mateo truly stood out. He stayed calm, friendly, and professional the entire time while taking orders and making them efficiently. You could tell he was under a lot of pressure, yet he handled everything with great composure. Employees like him deserve recognition!
